Back to the FUN (funny?) FARM!!

It is that time of year again - - (not sure how it goes so fast) and we are in the Fall season - - I have to shift gears as we head for the farm and get ready for Fall Fun - - Our 10 acre corn maze this year is the FFA logo (FUTURE FARMERS of AMERICA, (Vocational Agriculture).  Our  on site pumpkin crop for this year was very poor due to heavy rains early, (4 inches plus, right after planting) and then near drought conditions up until last week.  NOT TO WORRY  - we will have PLENTY of pumpkins from one of our other farms. - - ONCE AGAIN, FOR THE GREAT PHOTO'S, We want to say, THANKS!  TO THE FOLKS AT:

We are BACK!! After nearly 6 weeks - -

We were lucky to have spectacular weather for the entire month of October which gave us 5 full weekends in October.  We had record crowds and had to increase the size of our parking lot.  Below are some Aerial shots by Ron with HIGH FLITE AERIAL PHOTOS, the shots were taken in Fall of 2009 and this Fall.  You can see the difference in the PARKING LOT construction and some other details - - -

IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN TIME - - !

It has come to that time of year again - -  "Pumpkin Time" - after a rather busy season, Laura and I leave the lake for awhile and head for the farm.  Captains Jones, Johnson and Anderson will be holding down the fort at the Lake while we start getting things ready at Eagle Fork, we are a week behind and weather is NOT cooperating at all. Today (Sunday) we have major storms, rain and wind.  Our pumpkin crop isn't to bad this year and we plan to have "pick your own" starting after the 1st week of October - - - With a little luck - and help from the man upstairs - -  we should have a good year!

A work in Progress - GO MIZZOU!

Back in mid July I had an "off  subject" post regarding our 2009, 10 acre Corn Maze at the Pumpkin Farm.  Click HERE for the "Amazing"July post.  Last Wednesday evening and most of the day on Thursday (8-13-09) myself, Kirk Fischer and one of our trusty Maze Mowers, Jeff Hutsler took on the job of cleaning the trails and details of the maze which had grown up considerably due to all the rain we had over the past month.  I had contacted our neighbor, Tim Gunther, chief pilot of HELISAT, Helicopter Services and Technologies, LLC (click here for HELISAT site).  They make regular test and training flights over the farm and will sometimes  snap some picts for us.  As we were trying to get the maze cleaned up and trimmed for the formal aerial shot, I thought we might get an early shot to insure we hadn't missed anything.  I called Thursday while Jeff an I were in the maze, armed with "machetes" trimming and cleaning the trails and cutouts, so happened he was headed out on a flight when I called.  The photo shows the maze partially cleaned out, the white "speck" near middle of the old style helmet on the left is me and Jeff - red shirt- (can barely be seen by zooming in closely) just below me on the same trail - -.  As you can see by comparing the original concept drawing and the near finished product - it truly is a "Precision Maze" - - 

A little off the subject, but AMAZING!

I'm going to digress a little here and go off subject for a moment and share with you part of our other "life".  As stated before, Laura and I operate (with much help from others) a pumpkin farm in the fall, located north of St Louis.  We have "hayrides", school field trips, gift shop and a 10 acre Corn Maze.  (www.eaglefork.com).  Last week Rob Stouffer of Precision Mazes Lee's Summit, MO cut out our 2009 Maze which is a tribute to the 120th football season of Missouri University (MU), (MIZZOU).  The maze design was approved by the University for use prior to being cut.  We have had these mazes every season since 2004.  In fact if you "google" the farm address on google maps or google earth, you will find our 2006 St Louis Cardinals logo maze in perfect detail.  (This maze was featured in ESPN Magazine)  The satellite shot taken on AUGUST 16, 2006 (65 Eagle Fork Lane, Moscow Mills, MO 63362)
